My good friend Liz approached me early last month about taking a family session of her daughters, sisters, nieces, mom and grandmother. I rarely do family portraits with so many people, but it seemed like a great idea and one I would want for myself if either of my Grandmothers were still alive. It has been years since I have had a family portrait done with me and my family. Their session turned out better than I could have imagined and it made me think about how important it is for us moms to get in front of the camera. I admit every year I take the easy way out and just take a photo of the kids. I want my kids to remember me as I am right now, so this year I WILL have a professional photographer take our portrait because these portraits will last generations. I want my grandkids to have a beautiful portrait rather than me taking a selfie. Don’t get me wrong, I love the selfies I have done with the kids, but they don’t replace heirloom portraiture. So what I am saying is this, spend the extra money and get a nice family portrait done. Don’t worry about losing 5 extra pounds or matching outfits, just do it. Down the road that stuff won’t matter, because all you will see is love or chaos, either way it is a win!
